Travel Health at Generation Pharmacy: Prescriptions and Pharmacist Consultations
We fill travel-medicine prescriptions from your prescriber, and we offer cash-pay travel health consultations with a pharmacist. Here is what to expect and how to plan.
The short answer: Generation Pharmacy fills travel-medicine prescriptions from your own prescriber. We also offer cash-pay travel health consultations with a pharmacist. Where California law allows pharmacists to furnish travel medications, the pharmacist may be able to provide some of them after the consultation. Call 424-228-1049 to schedule.
Two ways we help before a trip
1. Filling your prescriber's travel prescriptions
If your doctor or another prescriber writes travel medications for you, they can send the prescriptions to us by e-prescribing, fax or phone. We fill them and go over how and when to take each one, what to watch for, and how to store it on the road.
2. A travel health consultation with a pharmacist
A consultation is a scheduled, cash-pay appointment with one of our pharmacists. The pharmacist reviews your destinations, your travel dates, your health history and the medications you already take. Where California law allows, the pharmacist may furnish certain travel medications. If something you need is outside what a pharmacist can provide, the pharmacist will tell you and refer you to your prescriber or a travel clinic.
Check your destination's health notices
Health risks change by country and by season. Before you book a consultation, look up each destination on the CDC's travel health pages:
- CDC Travel Health Notices
- CDC destination pages (recommended vaccines and medicines by country)
Bring what you find to the consultation or to your prescriber.
Plan ahead
Start four to six weeks before you leave when you can. Some vaccines and medicines need to start before travel, and it gives time to fill prescriptions and answer questions. If your trip is sooner, call anyway.
Traveling with medications
- Keep medications in their labeled pharmacy containers, in your carry-on bag.
- Bring enough for the whole trip plus a few extra days.
- Carry a list of your medications and your prescriber's contact information.
- Some countries restrict certain medications. Check with the embassy of each country you will visit.
- Ask us how to store each medication in heat or cold.
Schedule a consultation
Travel health consultations are cash-pay. Call 424-228-1049 to schedule a time with a pharmacist, or ask your prescriber to send travel prescriptions to Generation Pharmacy.
