What is Acne?
Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, affecting up to 50 million Americans annually. It occurs when hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells, leading to whiteheads, blackheads, or pimples.
While acne most commonly affects teenagers, it can occur at any age. Adult-onset acne is becoming increasingly common, particularly among women.

How Prescribers Use Compounding for Acne
When a prescriber orders a compounded acne formula, compounding can change:
- Which active ingredients go into one preparation
- The strength of each ingredient
- The base, leaving out ingredients you react to
- The form: cream, gel or solution
